Event Details & Reservation

Afiya S. Zia’s recent book covers the deeply contested themes that have challenged women’s movements in Pakistan in recent years. The ‘war on terror’, Muslim women’s agency and piety, allegations against liberal/secular feminisms, and the role of capitalism and it’s collusion with religion and the development industry in sapping women’s secular autonomy are some themes covered in this book. Afiya documents Pakistani working women’s resistance to such challenges and discusses candidly the limits of current politics while pointing to future possibilities for progressive movements.

Join us at T2F for a discussion with experts Afiya Zia, Maleeha Zia and Farieha Aziz who talk about ‘Faith and Feminism in Pakistan; Religious Agency or Secular Autonomy?’ on Sunday, 10th June at 8pm!
