Ally Adnan Biography
Ally Adnan is an enthusiastic and indefatigable patron of the arts, and a well-known speaker on topics of culture, history and the arts. He holds a Master's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and has headed several business units in a number of multi-national telecommunications firms. His true love, however, is the arts.

Ally is a collector of arts, antiquities and music. His art collection of more than six thousand (6,000) paintings includes original works by Abdul Rehman Chughtai, Ahmed Parvez, Ali Imam, Allah Bux, Bashir Mirza, Anwar Jalal Shemza, Gulgee, Jamil Naqsh, Joan Miro, M F Hussain, Marino Marini, Pablo Picasso, Sadequain, Sayed Haider Raza, and many other artists. His collection of music includes eighty (80) thousand hours of unpublished live recordings of music from South Asia. He recently donated a portion of his music collection to the National College of Arts in Lahore, Pakistan, where the archive is named after him. Antique Japanese cloisonné, English sterling silver, Persian and Afghan rugs, Russian icons, Chinese snuff bottles, Japanese Cloisonné vases, Mughal jewelry, Muslim prayer beads, and Tibetan thangkas are amongst other items that he collects.

Ally started writing at the age of eleven (11) and is one of the few Pakistani writers who have written about music and the performing arts consistently for almost four (4) decades. His writings have appeared in Dawn, the Express Tribune, the Friday Times, Good Times, the Herald, Lajja, the Nation, Newsline, Page 3, the Pakistan Observer, She, Upstreet, V Mag and a number of other publications. His writings on classical music form a valuable treatise on the theory, culture and practice of music in India and Pakistan. Ally speaks on culture and the arts on the radio, television, schools and research symposia, all over the world, on a regular basis.

Ally’s area of expertise is Qavvaali and Sufism. He has conducted extensive research in the two areas and speaks and writes often on topics related to Qavvaali and Sufism. He has presented Qavaali all over the world and is considered a subject matter expert in the field.

Ally sits on the board of a number of institutions and organizations including the Indian Classical Music Circle of Dallas & Fort Worth and heads the After Hours organization which is dedicated to supporting South Asian art in the United States.
